This article will guide you to use Pre-Translation wizard. With just a few clicks, this feature can auto-populate your Grids and TMS Jobs with matching Translation Memory entries and fill in the rest with glossary-aided Machine Translation. Available machine translation services include Algebras, GPT-4o Text Translate, Google Text Translate, and Amazon Text Translate.

Use this feature to automatically generate a complete first draft of your translations, allowing your translators to focus on review and refinement rather than starting from scratch.

Accessing the Pre-Translation wizard

CMS Module

In the CMS module, you can use the Pre-Translation wizard to pre-translate a Grid. To do this, your Grid must have language columns and dependencies. 

1. Go to the Grid you want to pre-translate.
2. Click the button at the top toolbar and select Pre-Translation wizard. This will bring up the Pre-Translation Wizard dialog. 

 

 

TMS Module

In the TMS module, you can use the Pre-Translation wizard to pre-translate a Job. 

1. Go to the Job you want to pre-translate.
2. Click the button at the top toolbar and select Pre-Translation wizard. This will bring up the Pre-Translation Wizard dialog. 

 

 

CAT module

In the CAT module, you can use the Pre-Translation wizard to pre-translate segments. 

1. Open the CAT editor.
2. Click the button at the top toolbar and select Pre-Translation wizard. This will bring up the Pre-Translation Wizard dialog. 

 

 

Using the Pre-Translation wizard

Configure the following settings for the Pre-Translation Wizard (applied for both the CMS and TMS modules).

Translation configuration

• Choose source language: Select the source language for pre-translation.
• Choose target language: Select the target language for pre-translation

Translation memory

• Autofill translation from TM: Enable this to automatically insert exact matches from translation memory (TM).
• Autofill from near match TM: Select this to insert near matches from translation memory (TM). When enabled, this option provides additional settings:
  • Threshold score to TM after autofill: Set the minimum similarity score (0-100) required for a near match to be applied. Higher scores require closer matches, while lower scores allow more fuzzy matches. A score of 0 accepts all near matches, while 100 requires perfect matches.
  • Segment status after autofill: Determine the status assigned to segments after they are filled with near matches from TM. This helps you identify which translations may need additional review. Available status options include Up-to-date, Out-of-date, and Unset.
• Override existing text with TM: Replace current texts in the target language column with TM entries.

Machine translation

• Auto translate with machine translation: Enable this to use machine translation for segments without TM matches.
• MT service: Choose a service for machine translation. Depending on the service, there will be more sub-settings:
  • Algebras: Translation context, Algebras glossary ID
  • DeepL API: Translation context, DeepL glossary ID, formality
  • GPT-4o Text Translate: Translation context, Gridly glossary assigned to project
  • Google Text Translate: Glossary file
  • Amazon Text Translate: Profanity masking, formal language, glossary file

Running pre-translation

When you are ready, click Start.

Pre-translation results

After pre-translation completes, Gridly will report back the results, including:

• The number of inserted TM entries: Shows how many segments were filled with matches from your translation memory
• The number of translations by machine translation: Indicates how many segments were translated using the selected MT service

These results help you understand the effectiveness of your pre-translation and identify areas that may need human review.

In Gridly CMS, non-manually translated cells are marked with visual indicators:

• Translation memory matches have a purple TM icon in the bottom right corner.

• Machine translated cells have a green MT icon in the bottom right corner.

 

Managing configurations

The Pre-Translation wizard includes a configuration management system that allows you to save and reuse your settings across multiple projects and translation jobs.

Saving configurations

To save your current pre-translation settings:

1. Click the Config management button at the bottom left of the wizard
2. Select Save from the options that appear
3. In the "Save configuration" dialog that opens:
   • Configuration name: Enter a descriptive name for your configuration.
   • Description (optional)
4. Click Save to store your configuration

Loading saved configurations

To load a previously saved configuration:

1. Click the Config management button at the bottom left
2. Select Load saved configuration from the options
3. In the Choose configuration dialog, select your configuration by clicking the radio button next to it
4. Click Choose to apply the configuration

All settings from the saved configuration will be automatically applied to the current wizard.

“Save as” option

In addition to saving complete configurations, you can also use Save as to create a new configuration based on your current settings with a different name, useful for creating variations of existing configurations.
