In a Grid, columns can be formatted as any of the following Data types:
Special data types
Localization
Select Localization in the dropdown menu of the column setting to map the source language or target languages for translation to the column.
- Select Localization.
- Under Localization type, select Source language, or Target language.
- Select Language, then click Save.
The icon in the header (next to the column name) displays which type of data the column contains.
References
References allow you to point to data and values in another column in another Grid. You can therefore refer to your existing content from various locations. When updated, the changes are populated everywhere.
To create a reference-type column, select the "Reference" format in the column settings and choose a Grid and its column to be shown in the current Grid. See the example below.

Basic data types
Text data types
Single line - Select this data type for single lines of text.
Multiple lines - Select this data type for multiple lines of text.
Markdown - Select this data type to support Markdown language.
Rich text - Select this data type to support Rich Text Format (RTF).
Number - Select this data type for numbers only (other characters cannot be entered when selected).
Files
Select this data type to be able to add files to a column (i.e. images, video, or audio files). You can add a file by drag-and-drop directly to a cell from your computer.
Audio and video files can be played in the user interface of Gridly. All common types of multimedia files are supported and a built-in player is available for play control.
Single selection
Select this data type to create a single-selection drop-down list.
- 1. When selected, a + Add Option button will appear. Click to add an option.
- Enter text for this option.
- To add another option, press Enter or click + Add Option.
- To select a different color for each option, click on the colored circle and select a color.
- Once all options have been entered and colors selected, click Save.
Multiple selections
Select this data type to create a multiple-selection drop-down list.
When selected, a + Add Option button will appear. Click to add an option.
Enter text for this option.
To add another option, press Enter or click + Add Option.
To select a different color for each option, click on the colored circle and select a color.
Once all options have been entered and colors selected, click Save.
Date/time
Select this data type to create date and time pickers.
Boolean
Select this data type to support Boolean logic.
Code formatting Data types
Code formatting Data types enable embedding JSON and YAML codes into cells of the column:
