Categories in Gridly TMS help you organize Jobs with the same characteristics in a Project for more efficient management. They allow you to add shared resources and specify requirements that all Jobs within the Category must follow.
Categories inherit Project settings by default but can be customized to automate translation processes by determining specific workflows, translation memories, languages, or CAT editors for all associated Jobs.
Create a Category
Go to your TMS Project:
- Open Gridly Home page, click Open on Gridly TMS.
- Select Project from the left-hand side menu and choose your pejct

To create a new Category in your Project:
- In your Project, select the Categories tab.
- Click Add category.

- Fill in Category details:
- Name

Category type:
- Gridly: Use Gridly CAT editor for translation.
- memoQ: Use memoQ for translation. You need to set up memoQ integration first.
- Phrase: Use Phrase for translation. Set up Phrase integration to use this feature.
- Source language (single choice)
- Target languages (multi-choice)
- Assignee (optional)
- Priority
- Due date
- Workflow templates (multi-choice): Workflow defines how Task status will progress from start to finish and the sequence of steps (For example: translate, proofread, and review). Jobs under this Category will inherit the workflows chosen here.
- Description (optional)
- Click Save.

Configure Category settings
- Click
next to Category's name.
- Select Settings.

- In Category settings, you will find these options:
- Category details: Configure category name, category type, source and target languages, assignee, due date, priority, workflow templates, description.

Localization setup: Add localization resources such as translation memory and glossaries to your Category to improve translation speed and quality. New categories will use the project's localization settings by default. Adjusting these settings will override it.
- Master TM: Select a main Translation Memory to be used.
- Reference TMs: Select one or multiple Translation Memories as references. These TMs are read-only.
- Use working TM: Enable working TM for the Project.
- Auto ingest new translation text: Toggle on to automatically create new entries in the Master TM with new translations.
- Translation status for target cell: Select the translation status for target cell after it's auto-populated with TM entries (Out-of-date, Up-to-date, Unset).
- Glossaries: Select glossaries to be used.
- Non-Translatable: Select a non-translatable list to be used.

Quality assurance: Select quality assurance models for your Project. Gridly can help you identify localization errors by checking translations against the rules in these models. New Categories will use Project's quality assurance settings. Adjusting these settings will override it.
- Auto QA model: Select an Auto QA model
- LQA model: Select a Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA) model
- LexiQA model: Select a lexiQA model

- Click Save to save your Category settings.
