There are two options for how data can be filtered in Grids:
- View filters that are saved to a View and applied every time the View is displayed. View filters can contain multiple conditions, including regular expressions.
- Column filters that represent a fast and easy way for quick filtering. Column filters can be combined together and can not be saved in a View or Grid.
View filters are a great tool to control which data can users see in a View. Once a View filter is set, it is applied every time the View is displayed to a user.
Setting a View filter
To set a View filter, click the Filter icon in the View section of the ribbon of a Grid. The dialogue window for setting up View filters appears. Click the Add filter button and add filtering conditions for columns of your choice.
According to the data type of selected columns, the following conditions can be applied:
- is empty
- is filled
- is not
- regular expression
If Dependencies are set in a Grid, View filters can be used to filter data by statuses of the dependencies. To filter data by dependency status, select a column for which a dependency is set, choose the “is” condition, and select a status from the dropdown menu in the Value field:
This way, for example, a localization manager can display only strings that have been changed and therefore need new translations in a View for translators. To filter out strings that are both unset and out-of-date, use the condition that the target language “is not” up-to-date.
Column filters are a quick and easy way how to filter data in a Grid without a need to preserve them in the future. They can’t be saved in a View of a Grid, once the View is left, they’re cleared.
Working with column filters
Column filters are located in the header of a Column. To filter content in a column, simply type a text that records should contain or chose one of the options from the dropdown menu to filter out data.
Use multiple column filters at once to combine the conditions together and slice the data set as you want. For boolean types of columns, tick the check box in the column header to filter the desired option.
The picture above displays a combination of multiple column filters applied: Record ID contains "Cred" AND records with up-to-date Spanish texts AND records checked as Approved.
